Sustainability Reports

Building Badger Meter’s sustainability story from its first report into an annual 50+ page publication.

Year :

2017 - 2022

Industry :

Water Technology

Company :

Badger Meter

Role :

Lead Designer

Challenge:

Badger Meter was beginning to formalize how it communicated its sustainability efforts, but there was no existing Sustainability Report or established visual approach to build from. The content needed to clearly communicate a growing amount of environmental, social, and governance information to audiences with different priorities.

Solution :

I designed the company’s first Sustainability Report from the ground up, creating an editorial approach that could organize complex information while still feeling engaging and consistent with the broader Badger Meter brand. As the company’s sustainability efforts and available data grew, I continued evolving the report across successive editions.

My Contributions :

  • Editorial concept and visual direction

  • Cover and interior layout design

  • Typography, imagery, and graphic treatment

  • Multi-page production

  • Evolution and refinement across successive editions

Approach :

A Foundation For Growth

What began as a biannual report evolved into an annual publication as sustainability became a greater business priority and the amount of available data continued to grow. Each edition expanded on the last, incorporating new initiatives, milestones, focus areas, and feedback while maintaining a recognizable visual foundation.

Making the Story Clear

As the report grew, the design needed to accommodate increasingly diverse content without becoming overwhelming. I used hierarchy, typography, imagery, layout, and consistent visual patterns to help readers move between company priorities, initiatives, data, and supporting stories.

Impact :

What began as a biannual report evolved into an annual 50+ page publication as sustainability became a greater business priority and the amount of available data grew. The report became an increasingly important tool for communicating progress and priorities to prospective customers, board members, and investors.
